Antioxidant rich food

A lot of vitamin and nutrients help fight against free-radicals. These substances are, for instance, vitamin A, C and E, flavonoids and anthocyanidins.
Antioxidants protect the body from free-radical bombardment. Free-radicals are byproducts of our bodily functions triggered by the consumption of alcohol and junk food, or, the exposure to smoking, pollutions and UV rays. These functions have adverse effect on our immune system. Elimination of free-radicals would then help to maintain strong and healthy immune system.

Here are the foods that are rich in antioxidant

• Berries – blueberry, raspberry and blackberry contain high dose of anthocyanins which is why they are reddish or purplish and potent in their antioxidant properties.

• Almonds – rich in vitamin E

• Orange – known to be rich in vitamin C. An orange (131 g) is packed with almost 100% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C. Vitamin C can help promote the immune system and fight against free-radicals at the same time.

• Garlic – add some when pan frying your food, make pasta or mix it in your salad dressing. Not only garlic can spice things up a little but it can boost your immune system. The herb has long been used as antibiotics and powerful weapon against bacteria and virus.

• Ginger – Ginger is antibiotic and it has a lot of benefits for healing and prevention of inflammation.

Each of the food listed above is good for our immune system but the best choice for maintaining holistic health is to eat balanced a diet.
